A.C. Reed & The Sparkplugs

On May 9th Chicago blues' premier sax player A.C. Reed celebrated his 71st birthday at the "Schwarzer Adler" in Rheinberg-Vierbaum/Germany. Here you can find photos of A.C. and his band that I made in the past.

02-16-1996: "Bahnhof Sued", Essen, Germany
11-15-1996: "Kingston Mines", Chicago, USA
05-09-1997: "Schwarzer Adler", Rheinberg, Germany

A.C. Reed was born May the 9th, 1926 in
Wardell, Missouri. His real name is Arthur
Corthen. The former sideman of Buddy Guy,
Junior Wells and Albert Collins just has a
new record on Ice Cube Rec. out now.

Sammy Fender (02-16-1996)

Sammy Fender is a 54 years old guitarist
from Chicago. When you hear him playing and
singing you'll know he some one to come
around. I was very pleased to hear him on
the latest A.C. Reed album.

Avery Brady (02-16-1996)

Avery Brady is the youngest member of the
Sparkplugs. I don't know much about him,
but his appearance is very inconspicuous.
Don't get me wrong: His playing is always
straight and a tough basis for the up-beats.

Sambo is the drummer and a real show-man.
Usually he sings three songs every night:
Hoochie Coochie Man, Lick it,
Party House Blues

Kelly Connors (05-09-1997)

She seems to be a new member of the band -
she might be booked only for the European tour.
Her playing is a nice enrichment to the Sparkplugs.

Charles Edward "Ed" Wooten (05-09-1997)

Ed is the new 2nd guitarist. I saw him two times.
His playing is in difference to Sammy Fender
cleaner and quicker.

Jerry was the second guitarist in early 1996. He's a
perfect string-bender in the Freddie King style.
Don't be surprised if you find him standing on the
bar playing a furious solo.
