Percy Strother Blues Band

October 18, 1999 - "Topos", Leverkusen/Germany

Percy Strother (voc, g, harp) - Jan Mittendorp (g) - Ellio Martina (b) - Frank Bolder (dr)

Strother was born on July 23rd, 1946 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Now resident of Minneapolis he recorded three albums and made most recently his 8th european tour in only 6 years time. At the Topos club in Leverkusen / Germany he was supported by a very good dutch band around guitarist Jan Mittendorp, who had done recordings with Percy, too. Live Strother is a charismatic singer with a huge deep 'soul' voice. But he does hard Chicago blues in the Muddy / Wolf style, too. His guitar work is execellent. He has a cutting sound but still routed in traditional blues playing. Surpringsly he occassionaly blows the harp with a nice sound. To find more about this great musician check out his personal website: www.visi.com/~ psl/home.html and for his latest dates in Europe: www.crossroads.nl

As he is a great musician he is a fine person, too. He signed my R.J. Mischo CD on wich he appeared as a guest. When he saw the CD he started laughing and someone of the band added 'Percy, ain't that the record you made so much money of ?'. I bought his latest CD 'It's My Time' which is a great temporary soul/blues record. On the all original songs you can he hear his moving voice surrounded by horns and organ - Memphis soul/blues at it's best.
